An ode to the scale modeler

The ode to the scale modeler is a model within a model. Two modelers (1:22.5 scale) are messing around with their garden railway (1:220 scale). It seems like they are building 7.25 inch live steam models.

The story of the Ode to the scale modeler is told in detail in PRUTSVLOG#028 and #029 (in Dutch).

The diorama is inspired by 'Father's Shed' in the Dutch National Railway Museum in Utrecht. I made it in four days for the TV show Klein Maar Fijn (Greatly Small). It was my piece for the final. And the winner of the show.

In this larger scale, you can keep adding details until it drives you crazy. Figurines also come out a lot better.

The diorama is made to fit in a box behind a picture frame. The box, the frame and the wall were left behind in the studio. The diorama was also a bit damaged. I built a new box plus a wall with a frame and renovated the diorama. And the garden railway now really moves!

The workshop is a cozy mess and full of details. I can't believe I ever put this together in a few days and nights.

Everything is dirty and clearly used. There is something to be discovered everywhere.

I have mounted a small LED in the lamp and there is now light shining on the workbench.

The workshop's big joke is the steaming hot cup of coffee (we Dutch love our coffee). I hid a smoke generator in the workbench and modelled a cup from Fimo clay over it.

The cart in front is new. The windows have been replaced and the garden has been replanted.

I built a new car with a seat. All trains have had a major overhaul. This Z stuff is over 40 years old!

And the diorama is done. Honestly, I don't know where to put it. It would be nice to exhibit the diorama at a show.
